Baby Booties „Coffee Break“ – Free Pattern

– Enthält Werbelinks  –
After I´ve made some baby patterns, a lot of visitors asked me to make some booties. Here they are!  You can knit them with a little amount of sockyarn (fingering weight, 4ply). I´ve made them with the so called „Kaffeebohnenmuster“ – coffee-beans-pattern. You can knit it in 2 sizes: 0-3 month and 3-6 month. If it is needed, you will find the instructions for the bigger size in the brackets.
Let´s go!

German pattern: Die deutsche Anleitung findest du hier

p = purl
k = knit
ktbl = knit through backloop
sl = slip
k2tog = knit 2 together
yo = yarn over
BO = bind off
CO = cast on
psso2 = pass the slipped stitch over the 2 knitted stitches
rnd(s) = round(s)
st(s) = stitch(es)
WS = wrong side

Pattern

Ribbing

CO 33 (41) sts. Work in the round. Be careful, not to twist. Slip the first st to the end of the last needle and knit it together with the last st of the first round. This will make a nicer CO edge.

Work in the ribbing pattern: k1tbl, p1 – continue, until the ribbing measures 2.75 inches (I´ve made 26 rounds).

Top of the Foot

Work the ribbing pattern over the first needle (= 8/10sts). You will not use the sts on needle 1 and 4 for the top of the foot. You are working with the sts on needle 2 and 3 now – putting them on one needle makes it more pleasant (= 16/20 sts).
You work in rows now: sl the first st of every row as if to k tbl and p the last st of every row.
Row 1: p3 (4), k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p3 (4)
Row 2 (= WS): work sts as they appear
Row 3: p3 (4), *k1, yo,  k1, p2* – work 2 times, k1, yo,  k1, p3 (4)
Row 4 (= WS): work sts as they appear – p the yo.
Row 5: p3 (4) , *sl1,  k2, psso2, p2* – work 2 times, sl1, k2, psso2, p3 (4)
Row 6: (= WS): work sts as they appear – p the 2 slipped over sts
Work rows 3-6 a total of 4 (5) times.

Sides

You are now at the toes of the shoes. K one row over the toe-sts. Now pick up 9 (11) sts out of the edge foot top, k the sts of needle 4 and 1 and pick up again 9 (11) sts on the other side of the foot top. K 7 (9) rnds in stockinette stitch. Devide the sts while knitting, so that you have 10 (14) sts from the middle of the toe on one needle and 10 (14) sts from the middle of the heel on one needle.

Sole

Now you work in rows again, from the toe to the heel, in garter st – only k sts. In every row, you k2tog with the last st of your working needle and the first st of the side needle (needle 2 or 4). Then you turn the work and bring the yarn to the front, sl the first st k-wise.
Knit, until you´ve used all sts of needle 2 and 4. You have 10 (14) sts on the first and 10 (14) sts on the third needle now. Cut the yarn and leave a long tail. Put the tail on a darning needle and sew the sts together with kitchener st.

Sew in all the ends and fold the ribbing down. Work the second shoe and be happy with your baby booties!

I´d be happy to see your work on instagram (tag me @carosfummeley and/or use the hashtag #cficandothat) and on ravelry: You can find the pattern page on ravelry: Coffee Break Booties on Ravelry.
